Dorothy “Mama Dot” Wade McQueen, lifelong resident of Fayette County, retired employee of the Troxel Corporation and wife of the late Marvin Earl McQueen departed this life Friday afternoon, March 8, 2013 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for one day. She was 95 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. McQueen were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, March 11th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Mike Ashford, a longtime friend and Baptist Minister, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery in the Macon Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. McQueen was born January 18, 1918 in Fayette County, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Yancey Wade and Irma Chambers Wade, early residents of the Macon Community. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married August 18, 1940 to Marvin Earl McQueen, who preceded her in death on February 28, 1993.
Dot, known by many as “Mama Dot”, was employed by the Troxel Company in Moscow for 24 years until her retirement at the age of 70. She will be remembered as an avid sports fan who loved watching professional sports and her beloved University of Mississippi “Ole Miss Rebels”. She was a longtime resident of the Macon and Somerville communities and was a member of the Macon United Methodist Church. She had a deep devotion for her family and friends and was blessed to remain active throughout her life. Dot touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. McQueen is survived by her daughter, Barbara McQueen Smith (Jimmy) of Memphis; two sons, Marvin E. (Sonny) McQueen (Mimi) of Germantown, William R. (Ricky) McQueen (Judy) of Somerville; three grandchildren, Marvin E. (Bubba) McQueen (Leah), William R. (Richard) McQueen, Matthew Lawrence Smith; two great grandchildren, Susan Merrell McQueen, Noah Biggs McQueen; her nephew Norman Vance (Barbara) of Bolivar; and her wonderful best friend, Rubye Collins of White Hall, AR. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Susan Merrell McQueen.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Bill R. Peak, Tommy Wade, Garner Culver, Kenneth Taylor, Jerry Redfearn and Terry Redfearn.
Honorary casketbearers were Bill Cowan, Max Burch and Bobby Miller.
