Dorothy (Hollis) Simpson

Dorothy Hollis Simpson, age 96, resident of Memphis, Tennessee and wife of the late Dr. John P. Simpson, departed this life Tuesday morning, December 12, 2023 at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis.

Dorothy was born December 10, 1927 in Spearsville, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Howard W. Hollis and Callie Martin Hollis. She graduated from Union Parrish High School in Spearsville and was married April 25, 1948 to Dr. John P. Simpson who preceded her in death on April 14, 2020.

Mrs. Simpson had been a resident of Memphis since 1969 and was employed as a bookkeeper for Binswanger Glass Company before her retirement. She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Bartlett Woods Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, singing and fishing.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by two daughters, Janell McCorkle of Memphis, TN and Carolyn Simpson of Memphis, TN; her sister, Laveda Perdue of Searcy, AR; six grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Anita Gilbow and her granddaughter, Sarah French.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Simpson at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Bartlett Woods Church of Christ with Bro. Stan Phipps officiating. Interment followed in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery on Raleigh-LaGrange Road.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Mike Bentley, Paul Mamczur, Michael Gilbow, Quintin Brousseau, Alex Mamczur, Austin Gilbow, Johnny Gilbow and Grayson Gilbow. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Gilbow and Ryan McCorkle.
