Dorothy Smith
1912—2011
Dorothy Louise Drane Smith, resident of Redding, California, former resident of Shelby and Fayette County died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Kirkwood Assisted Living in Redding where she had been a resident for eight years. She was 98 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Smith were conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, April 30
th
at the Graveside with Rev. Joshua Willadsen of the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Oakland, officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Smith was born December 24, 1912 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward John Drane and Ada Griffis Drane. She received her education in the Memphis Public School System and was the devoted wife Ansel Smith, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker throughout her life and was an Episcopalian. She was a lifelong resident of West Tennessee before moving to California to be near her son.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her son Edward D. Smith of Redding, CA, five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnye Hogue.
