Dorothy "Dot" Ophelia (Gilpin) Squyres

April 15, 1922 — May 15, 2014

Dorothy “Dot” Gilpin Squyres, resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and former resident of the Saulsbury Community in Hardeman County, departed this life Wednesday, May 15, 2014. She was 92 years of age. Mrs. Squyres will be remembered by many in Fayette County as a valued employee of the Walters Better Foods in Somerville for a number of years before her retirement.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Squyres were conducted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, May 17th. Interment followed in the Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Baton Rouge with arrangements provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Squyres was a native of Fayette, Alabama and was the wife of the late Clinton Robert “Bob” Squyres, Jr., a United States World War II Navy Veteran and Security Guard for the Grand Valley Lakes in Hardeman County. Mr. and Mrs. Squyres were married for 38 years before his death on August 11, 1994. She was a Christian and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Mrs. Squyres is survived by her daughter, Sue Mooney (Tim); her stepdaughter, Peggy McGinnis (Jim); her sister, Betty Jean Clement (John); her brother, Jeff Gilpin (Joycelyn); and four grandchildren, Chris Lalonde, David Lalonde, Michelle Lalonde and Rob Mooney.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, T.J. Gilpin and Lucy Bell Gilpin; two brothers, Raymond Gilpin, Ralph Gilpin; and three sisters, Irene Gilpin, Martha Cole and Sally Blanche Lea.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
