Douglas "Doug" Carter Jenkins

Douglas Carter "Doug" Jenkins, age 65, resident of Somerville, retired teacher at Fayette Academy and husband of Vivie Jenkins, departed this life Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
A Gathering of Family and Friends of Mr. Jenkins was from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Jenkins was born March 2, 1951 in Memphis. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a BS in Education. He was of the Baptist faith and a teacher for many years at Fayette Academy before retiring for health reasons. Mr. Jenkins enjoyed studying his genealogy, collecting coins, gardening and taking care of his yard.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vivie Nell Pruitt Jenkins of Somerville; two daughters, Amy Proctor and her husband, Jeff, of Moscow, Catherine Jenkins of Cordova; his son, Gregory Sheffield and his wife, Traci, of Clearwater, Florida; his sister, Cathy Porter of Pearl River Louisiana; his brother, Foster Jenkins and his wife, Christy, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and five grandchildren, Connor Morris, Abby Claire Proctor, Everett Proctor, Madeline Sheffield and Maxwell Sheffield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coleman Jenkins and Charlotte Anderson Jenkins and his sister, Doris Gauley.
