Carl Andrew “Drew” Haid, III, Memphis resident with extended family members in Fayette County and Shelby County Engineering Department employee died Saturday evening, December 24, 2011 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville. He was 63 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Haid will be conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, December 29th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Ken Culver of the Warren Community Church in Somerville officiating. Interment will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery between Bolivar and Hornsby in Hardeman County. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Haid was born July 13, 1948 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. Haid, Jr. and Martha Elizabeth Morrisett Haid, a native of Hardeman County. He moved to Memphis at an early age and received his education in the Memphis City School System, graduating from East High School in 1967.
Mr. Haid had been an employee of Shelby County for 38 years before retiring 2-½ years ago. He served for many years as a bridge inspector in the engineering department of Shelby County. He was a member of the Highland Heights Methodist Church and frequently visited relatives in Fayette County.
Mr. Haid will be remembered as a computer guru who enjoyed outdoor activities that included boating and photography. He was an avid conversationalist who enjoyed special times with family and friends.
Mr. Haid is last survivor of his immediate family and he is survived by his cousin, Melodie Voyles of Somerville; and his aunt, Mary Smith (Carl) of Somerville.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers are Ray Smith, Robert Smith, Scott Easley, Tyler Smith, David Trimm, Raymond Dempsey and Jeff Voyles.
