Dr. Harold Revas Shivers, age 88, resident of the Somerville Community, retired dentist and husband of Evelyn Powell Shivers, departed this life Sunday morning, November 23, 2014 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Dr. Shivers were conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday, November 25th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Shivers son-in-law, Ron Roberson, officiating. Personal remarks were given by Charlie German and Dwayne Love. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Dr. Shivers was born April 4, 1926 in Trenton, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Shivers and Louella Underwood Shivers. He received his education in the Gibson County Public School System. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in Trenton and received his DDS degree at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He served in the United States Air Force as a dentist in Japan and was married June 30, 1946 to the former Evelyn Powell, who survives.
Dr. Shivers was a resident of the Somerville Community since 1952 and served as a dentist for 35 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Somerville Church of Christ where he was an Elder for 15 years and a Sunday School teacher for 36 years. He was active in the Lions Club and the American Dental Association and enjoyed quail hunting and working in his yard.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, Dr. Shivers is survived by three daughters, Sherry Roberson (Ron) of Germantown, Debbie German (Charlie) of Somerville, Tammie Love (Dwayne) of Bartlett; his sister, Doris Humphreys of Trenton; two sisters-in-law, Marian Shivers of Richardson, TX, Christeen Shivers of Oxford, MS; three grandchildren, Amy Westerholm, Calli Fanous, Jenni Harper; and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maurine Young (Elbert); two brothers, Millard Shivers, Dr. Chester Shivers; and his brother-in-law, Fred Humphreys.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jimmy Clement, Randy Humphreys, Billy Montague, Tommy Sanders, David Shivers, Kenneth Shivers, Richard Shivers and Jesse Stroup.
Honorary casketbearers were George Adams, Darrell Beard, Parker French, Bernes Johnson, Elliott Lambert, Richard Mitchell and Bill Weddle.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville Church of Christ, 15925 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
