Earl Wayne McKenzie, Jr. II

Earl Wayne McKenzie, Jr. II, age 86, longtime resident of the Hebron Community in Fayette County and husband of the late Virginia Carolyn “Jenny” Andrews McKenzie, departed this life Tuesday morning, February 20, 2018 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. McKenzie were conducted at 1 P.M. Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Kevin Treadway of Somerville officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Hebron Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. McKenzie was born November 15, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee. He received his education in the Tipton County School System and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Rock Island Railroad in earlier years and was the owner and operator of Earl’s Garage and Wrecker Service until his retirement.

Mr. McKenzie was a member of Charleston Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He enjoyed the Kentucky Derby, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Tennessee Titans football, sports, trains, trucking and special times with all his “Peep Peeps” (grandchildren).

Mr. McKenzie is survived by five daughters, Sherry McKenzie Potempa of Clearwater, FL, Tammy Williams (Ricky) of Hardy, AR, Linda McKenzie (Michael Aungst) of Brownsville, TN, Mitzi Marbry (Roger) of Arab, AL, Nancy Bradford (James) of Scottsboro, AL; two sons, John “Bubba” McKenzie of Oakland, TN, David “Tater” McKenzie (Chrissy) of Oakland, TN; his sister, Lougenia Williams (Gene) of Cordova, TN; 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and a very special sister-in-law, AnnNita Andrews of Brownsville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jenny Andrews McKenzie who died June 30, 2008; his father and mother, The Rev. “E.W.” McKenzie, Sr. and Emma Lou McKenzie; his mother, Willie Mae Henley Ashley; three brothers, Earl Wayne McKenzie, Jr., Woodrow “Woody” McKenzie, Tony Ashley; and two grandchildren, Aaron Williams and Abbie Gail Rogers.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Brandon Williams, Andy Rogers, Jeffrey Pattat, Eddie Taylor, Carl Taylor, Brian Steward, Curtis Howard and William Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Young and Mr. McKenzie’s grandsons.
