Edith (Mitchell) Gullett

Edith “Teensie” Mitchell Gullett, age 82, resident of Somerville and wife of the late Julian Velton Gullett, died Thursday evening, August 10, 2017 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Gullett were conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Dave Biter, music minister for First Baptist Church Hickory Withe, officiating. Interment followed in the Reid Cemetery at Eads. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Gullett was born August 18, 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Dunlap Mitchell and Mildred Elizabeth Moss Mitchell. She was a graduate of Germantown High School and was a homemaker throughout her life. Mrs. Gullett was married December 24, 1951 to Julian Velton Gullett who preceded her in death on July 9, 2003. She was a member of Whitten Memorial Baptist Church in Memphis and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, crocheting, sewing and making her own clothes.

Mrs. Gullett is survived by three daughters, Hilda Mathis (Bobby Joe) of Somerville, TN, Elaine Melear (Derrell) of Byhalia, MS, Judith Ann Bowman (Mike) of Hernando, MS; two sons, Raymond Gullett (Torrie) of Nesbit, MS, James Frank Gullett (Bethany) of Byhalia, MS; her sister, Nancy Berry (Bill) of Memphis, TN; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Christopher Hines, Daniel Reeves, Ryan Cowger, Joseph E. Moynihan, Joseph P. Moynihan and Paul Gullett.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
