EDITH FAYE DOBSON WOOD, a resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Leonard Wood died Thursday morning, December 3, 2009 at the Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital where she had been a patient for four days. She was 90 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wood were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 5th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Jim Whitley, Pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church near Laconia, officiating. Interment followed in the Concord Cemetery of the Gates Community in Lauderdale County, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Wood was born July 20, 1919 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Everett Dobson and Myrtle Edna Bennett Dobson.
She was educated in the Kansas Public School Systems and was married November 14, 1954 to Leonard Wood, retired employee of the U.S. Corps of Engineers who died February 19, 2001.
Mrs. Wood was a homemaker throughout her life and was a resident of the Edith Community near Ripley, Tennessee in Lauderdale County before moving to Fayette County nine years ago.
Known as an independent person throughout her life, Mrs. Wood remained active until her death. She maintained her own home and her interests included gardening, fishing and crocheting.
She was a devoted member of the Liberty Baptist Church where she participated in numerous church activities.
Survivors of Mrs. Wood include two daughters, Betty Stewart of Laconia and Wilda Wilson of Somerville; two sisters, Lillian Matthews and Rose Matthews, both of Kerman, CA; two brothers, Jessie Dobson of Anderson, CA and Jimmy Dobson of Illinois; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-granchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Conley and eight brothers and sisters.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Jason Hardin, Richard "Bubba" Kee, Rodney Kimble, Luke Pulliam, Matthew Pulliam, Buddy Wayne Stewart and J. C. (Jay) Stewart, Jr.
Honorary casket bearers were Billy Joe Hardin and Chester Pulliam, Jr.
