Edith Ann (Strickland) Cole

Edith Ann Strickland Cole, age 87, resident of Oakland and wife of Tommy Cole, died Tuesday evening, September 5, 2017 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Cole were conducted at 10:45 A.M. Friday, September 8, 2017 at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. The officiating minister was Bro. Jason Moore, pastor of Oakland First Baptist Church. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Cole was born January 13, 1930 in Corinth, Mississippi. She received her education in the Alcorn County, Mississippi Public School System and was married March 18, 1960 to James Thomas “Tommy” Cole. She was a member of Oakland First Baptist Church and was a homemaker throughout her life. Mrs. Cole enjoyed traveling, especially going to the mountains and camping. She traveled to all 48 of the contiguous United States. Mrs. Cole was a seamstress, having made clothes for all of her family and sewed jerseys for the Dallas Cowboys.

Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Thomas “Tommy” Cole of Oakland, TN and her son, Thomas Matthew Cole of Oakland, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Howard Strickland and Emma Lola Davenport Strickland and her brother, James Mearl Strickland.
