Edna Louise (Gwynn) Lucas

Edna Louise Gwynn Myers Lucas, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late David F. Myers, Jr. and the late Robert C. Lucas died Saturday morning, August 18, 2012 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was 85 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Lucas were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Ken Story of the Somerville First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Lucas was born May 5, 1927 in the Williston Community of Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland Ray Gwynn and Lula Mae Tacker Gwynn. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her husband, David F. Myers, Jr. of Somerville, who formerly served as a local judge and also as the Sheriff of Fayette County. After the death of Mr. Myers in 1994, she was married to Robert C. Lucas of Memphis, who preceded her in death in 2010. A member of Somerville First Baptist Church and active member of her community, Mrs. Lucas enjoyed animals, gardening and dancing. She was a caregiver for her family an an active and energetic person who took great pride in her home and yard.

Mrs. Lucas is survived by two daughters, Kathy M. Cook (Donnie) of Somerville, Carole M. Ray (Robert) of Memphis; her son, David F. Myers III (Cathy) of Bartlett; her sister, Frances G. Davis of Bells; her brother, Thomas Gwynn of Tullahoma; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Lucas was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Amiee Myers, who died in 2009.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148 or to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
