Edna Elizabeth (Lundy) McElroy

May 23, 1927 — July 16, 2014

Edna Elizabeth Lundy McElroy, resident of the District 15 Community in Fayette County and wife of the late Andy McElroy, Jr., departed this life Wednesday evening, July 16, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville where she had been a patient for 12 days. She was 87 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.

Services for Mrs. McElroy were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, July 19th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Pastor David Cross, a pastor at the First Assembly of God in Memphis, officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. McElroy was born May 23, 1927 in Collierville. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lundy and Iver Carter Lundy. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was married September 23, 1944 to Andy McElroy, Jr., who preceded her in death in October 1978. She was employed as a seamstress for the Salant & Salant Company in Somerville for over 30 years before her retirement 14 years ago.

Mrs. McElroy was a resident of the District 15 Community for 40 years and was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, working with flowers, cooking, working in her yard and special times with her grandchildren.

Mrs. McElroy is survived by her daughter, Judy Elaine Corbin of Collierville; her son, Arthur McElroy (Margaret) of Rossville; her sister, Ruby Grace of Byhalia, MS; five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Wilson Lundy.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Rick Reaves, Michael Corbin, Aaron Blackwood, Logan Kercheval, Brett Kercheval, Garner Houston and Hunter Moore.
