Edna Lee McCullough White, resident of the Hickory Withe Community and wife of Richard S. White departed this life Friday afternoon, March 15, 2013 at the Grace Healthcare Center in Cordova where she had been a resident for several months. She was 80 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. White were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 19th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Mike Hopkins, lay speaker of the Gallaway First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. White was born February 27, 1933 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold McCullough and Cora Lee Davis McCullough. She received her education in the Marshall County, Mississippi Public School System and was married April 28, 1950 to Richard Stanley White, a native of Wilson, Arkansas, who survives. Mr. White had been employed in dairy farming and agriculture in the Hickory Withe area for a number of years before his retirement.
Mrs. White was a homemaker throughout her life and was employed in the housekeeping department of the Gallaway Healthcare Center in earlier years. She was a member of the Gallaway First Baptist Church and was active in church activities as long as health permitted. She was a former member of the church choir and also assisted in the church bible school program. She was a former resident of the Ellendale Community and had been a resident of the Hickory Withe, Arlington and Gallaway Communities for the past 40 years.
She is remembered by those who love her as one who modeled the importance of hard work, independence and patience. Mrs. White saw good things in unexpected places and in her last years endured suffering with grace.
In addition to her devoted husband of 62 years, Mrs. White is survived by two daughters, Barbara Mullins (Wallace) of Memphis, Linda Hill (Charles) of Clarksville, TN; her sister, Pearl Bing of Union City, TN; two brothers, George McCullough of Union City, TN, Robert McCullough of Union City, TN; two grandchildren, Walter Hill of Clarksville, TN, Virginia Benedetto of Stratford, CT; two step-grandchildren, Jeremy Mullins of Carrier, MS, Angela Summers of Athens, AL; and two great grandchildren, Jeni Hill of Martin, TN and McKenzie Hill of Martin, TN.
Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Shelby County Chapter of the American Diabetes Association, 5587 Murray Road, Suite 105, Memphis, TN 38119 or to the Gallaway First Baptist Church, 377 Main Street, Gallaway, TN 38036.
