Edward Clifford Davidson, longtime resident of the Somerville Community, U.S. World War II Army Veteran and husband of Muriel Perkins Davidson died Monday morning, December 19, 2011 at the Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for ten days. He was 81 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Davidson were conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, December 22nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. The officiating ministers were Dr. Ken Culver of the Warren Community Church and Pastor Lillie Fletcher of the Antioch United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Davidson was born May 29, 1930 in the Warren Community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Washington Davidson and Anner Lee Hughes Davidson. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System. He was married December 8, 1951 to the former Muriel Edith Perkins of Fayette County, who survives. Mr. Davidson served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Davidson was a well known drywall contractor, operating the Davidson Drywall Service in the Fayette County area for over 40 years before his retirement 22 years ago. He was a member of the Warren Assembly of God Church and favorite pastimes included baseball, fishing and special times with family and grandchildren. Mr. Davidson enjoyed music and singing throughout his life and playing the guitar and harmonica.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Davidson is survived by five daughters, Hattie Brawley (Nathan) of Oakland, Barbara Trusty (Joe) of Olive Branch, MS, Mary Jackson (Phillip) of Pickwick, TN, Belinda Denniston (John) of Somerville, Joyce Hensley (Clark) of Somerville; his brother, Aubrey Davidson, Sr. (Mamie) of Somerville; four grandsons, Lee Doyle (Tab), Eddie Byrd (Tiffany), Bo Hines, Scott Hensley; three granddaughters, Patricia Doyle Smith (Shane), Dina Byrd Green (Kelly), Brooke Hensley; three step grandsons, three step granddaughters, five great grandsons, five great granddaughters, three step great grandsons, five great granddaughters, five nephews and three nieces.
Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Mae Conner.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Lee Doyle, Eddie Byrd, Bo Hines, Scott Hensley, Shane Smith and Kelley Green.
Honorary casketbearers were Aubrey Davidson, Jr. and Willie Connor.
