Edward Jay “Ed” Furr, Jr., resident of the Whiteville Community, retired employee for the Sears Corporation and husband of the late Billie Furr departed this life Thursday morning, August 8, 2013 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville. He was 85 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Graveside Services for Mr. Furr will be announced at a later date and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Furr was born January 9, 1928 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Jay Furr and Ora Lent Furr. He was married for 62 years to Billie Furr, who preceded him in death in March of 2008. He was a decorated officer in the United States Army and awarded the Bronze Star while serving in The Korean Conflict.
Mr. Furr was employed with the Sears and Roebuck Company for 45 years of dedicated service before his retiring as a sales manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and special times with his family.
Mr. Furr is survived by two sons, James L. Furr (Patricia) of Whiteville, Edward J. Furr III (Melissa) of Oakland; his sister, Peggy Ann Goudeau of Texas; his grandson, Jay Furr; and his great granddaughter, Madalyn.
