Edward Donnell Jerden

July 15, 1933 — November 2, 2012

Edward Donnell Jerden, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, United States Veteran, retired computer programmer and husband of Thelma Bishop Davis died Friday morning, November 2, 2012 at the Rainbow Healthcare Center in Bartlett where he had been a resident for six months. He was 79 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Jerden were conducted at 3 P.M., Sunday, November 4th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Eddie Little of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery – South in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Jerden was born July 15, 1933 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Carmack Jerden and Alene Stroud Jerden. He received his education in the Memphis Public School System and earned his associate’s degree in computer programming from State Tech in Memphis. Mr. Jerden was employed by the Welcome Wagon Organization in Memphis for a number of years before his retirement 17 years ago.

He was married September 14, 2002 to the former Thelma M. Davis, a retired teacher for the Killian Hill Christian School in Atlanta, Georgia, who survives. He served in the United States Air Force as a young person and was a resident of the Memphis area before moving to Fayette County 15 years ago. He was a member of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church and reading was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed gospel music and older television movies that included John Wayne and Matlock.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Jerden is survived by three sisters, Carol Kimery of Moscow, Sandra Holmes of Moscow, Diana Jerden of Moscow; and two brothers, J.L. Jerden of Atlanta, GA and Terry Lee Jerden of Kennesaw, GA.

Mr. Jerden was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Carson.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church, 17675 Highway 196, Eads, TN 38028.
