Eldon Dewitt Reeves, age 86, resident of Somerville and husband of Louise Reeves, departed this life Friday evening, December 23, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Graveside Services with Military Honors for Mr. Reeves were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, December 29, 2016 with Bro. Stan Smith, pastor of the Somerville First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Reeves was born March 8, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Clarence Dewitt Reeves and Terresie Blankenship Reeves. He received his education in the Missouri School System and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an entrepreneur throughout his life and was employed as a tour bus driver, a cross-country trucking operator and worked with Memphis Contract Cleaning. Mr. Reeves attended the Somerville First Baptist Church and enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling and taking pride in his yardwork.
Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife whom he married May 11, 1988, Louise Reeves of Somerville, TN; his son, Michael Reeves of Memphis, TN; two step-daughters, Susan Deaton of Southaven, MS, Tina Lawrence of Lakeland, TN; two brothers, Sonny Reeves of St. Louis, MO, James Reeves of Littleton, CO; three grandchildren, Corey Reeves (Heather) of Eads, TN, Olivia Lawrence of Lakeland, TN, Courtney Quatrara (Nic) of Raleigh, NC; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Steven Terry, Michael Reeves, Pete Williams, Corey Reeves, Sonny Reeves and Dave Kanger.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
