Eldredge Parrott Smith, lifelong resident of Fayette County and a native of the Macon Community, departed this life Thursday morning, March 6, 2014 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville where she had been a resident for over four years. She was 96 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services Honoring the Life of Mrs. Smith were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 8th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Boyce Wilson of Somerville and Bro. David Parlow of Moscow officiating. Personal reflections were given by Mrs. Smith’s son, Larry Smith and special music was provided by a grandson, Jason Smith. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Smith was born July 26, 1917 in the Macon Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Irwin Parrott and Mattie Love Pulliam Parrott, early residents of Fayette County. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married December 2, 1933 to Will Allen Smith who was associated with local building and painting contractors for many years before his retirement. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on December 31, 1997 and she was later married to Leo Stamper, a retired truck operator for Gordon Transport Company, who preceded her in death on September 24, 2002.
Mrs. Smith was a resident of the Somerville Community for many years and in later years was a resident of the Moscow Community. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Somerville and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church at Moscow at the time of her death. She was a homemaker throughout her life and was employed by the Somerville Manufacturing Company and Troxel Manufacturing Company in earlier years. She was also associated with her Parrott family in the operation of The Hut restaurant in Somerville.
Mrs. Smith will be remembered for her independence and her strong work ethic. She was blessed with a “Green Thumb” and loved caring for her yard, gardening and growing beautiful flowers that she shared with others. She was a lifelong resident of Fayette County.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Peggy Burnette–Bledsoe (John) of Moscow; her son, Larry Alan Smith (Mary) of Canton, GA; five grandchildren, Lori Chancellor, Peggy Daugherty, Joe Burnette, Jr., John Alan Smith, Jason Van Smith; seven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Joe Burnette, Jr., John Smith, Jason Smith, Will Chancellor, Jake Burnette and Ben Daugherty.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1980 Oak Grove Drive, Moscow, TN 38057.
