Elizabeth Ann Morton Johnson, resident of Germantown, formerly of Moscow, and retired teacher departed this life Thursday morning, April 11, 2013 at her residence. She was 64 years of age and died after for two years with cancer.
Services of Remembrance for Ms. Johnson were conducted at 3:30 P.M. Saturday, April 13th at the Germantown United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Atkins, former pastor at Germantown United Methodist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Richard Smith, Senior Pastor at Germantown United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Ms. Johnson was born June 18, 1948 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Wilson Morton and Cloteal Galloway Morton. She graduated from Fayette County High School and the University of Tennessee. She was employed as a high school math teacher with the Memphis City School System. After retiring from public education, she became an active volunteer at Calvary Street Ministry and later at Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center.
Ms. Johnson also enjoyed painting, quilting, and spending time with her myriad life-long and new friends. She was a long-time member of Moscow United Methodist Church and more recently of Germantown United Methodist Church, where she was a Stephen Minister, a member of the United Methodist Women, and a Team Read volunteer.
Ms. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Jessica Johnson of Memphis, and many cousins and friends.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were John Barrios, Steve Brunson, Bob Carter, John Cima, Don Eye, Ralph Kimmery, Rube Rhea, Jr., and Billy Wilson.
Honorary casketbearers were Craig Berry, Mike Bond, Tony Branham, Rob Gargiulo, Kristian Hansen, Joe Mancini, and Howard Strelsin.
