Elizabeth Davis Wilbanks, a resident of the Oakland Community and wife of Calvin Wilbanks, died at 12:30 A.M. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient since January 1st. She was 84 years of age and died following an illness of several weeks.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wilbanks were conducted at 1 P.M. Monday , March 24th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Mrs. Wilbanks' nephew, Rev. Vernon Smith, Baptist minister of Dresden, TN, officiating. Interment followed in Northridge Woodhaven Memorial Park at Millington. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Wilbanks was born February 12, 1924, in Dresden, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Monroe Davis and the late Earley Taylor Davis. She was educated in the Weakley County public school system and was married September 30, 1943, to Calvin Wilbanks, retired crane operating engineer, who survives.
Mrs. Wilbanks was a former resident of Plymouth, Michigan where she was employed as a crossing guard for the public school system. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbanks resided in various locations in the United States during his career as a crane operator and were residents of Bartlett before moving to Fayette County. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Wilbanks was a family oriented person and had a special closeness to her pet poodle, Lucy. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wilbanks is survived by her daughter, Diane Darnell (Bradley) of Oakland; her brothers, Charles Davis of Martin, Edmond Davis of St. Louis, Missouri; 2 grandchildren, Amber Buswell, Ashley Mullins and 2 great grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Buswell.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Kevin Bryant, Rodney Buswell, Bradley Darnell, John Jones, Joseph Jones and Ross Lowrey.
