Elizabeth McLendon Wood

ELIZABETH "LIZ" McLENDON WOOD, resident of the Pickwick Lake area, nd former resident of Memphis and retired Realtor and Broker, died at 6 P.M. Monday, April 28, 2008, at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville where she had been a resident for two weeks. She was 81 years of age and died following a six week illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wood were conducted at 3 P.M. Wednesday, April 30th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Michael Krech, pastor of the Somerville First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Special remarks were given by Mr. Blake Hatfield and the granddaughters of Mrs. Wood. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64 at Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Wood was born September 18, 1926, in Lee County, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Dr. Mac McLendon and the late Evelyn Howell McLendon. Mrs. Wood was educated in the Gulf Park private school and the Biloxi public school system.
Mrs. Wood was employed as a Real Estate Agent and Broker for a number of years in Memphis before her retirement fifteen years ago. She was a resident of Memphis for much of her life and after retirement moved to the Iuka/Pickwick areas five years ago.
Mrs. Wood was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church. She will be remembered as a people person who enjoyed family times and the friendship of many during her active life. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed nature, flower gardening, fishing and caring for her pet dog, Pebbles.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her children, Debbie Wilson of Collierville, Jim Wood (Linda) of Somerville; a sister, Sara E. Dudley of Helena, AR; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Payne, Andy Kee, Mike Drew, Wade Crockett, Bud Dudley and David Lewis.
