Ellen Elizabeth Mooneyhan

March 12, 1926 — April 28, 2008

Ellen Elizabeth "Bettye" Fly Mooneyhan, a resident of Moscow and wife of Harold L. Mooneyhan, died at 1 P.M. Monday, April 28, 2008, at her residence on Amy Street. She was 82 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mooneyhan were conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Greg Cook, pastor of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Lynn Eagan, former pastor of the church. Graveside services followed at 3 P.M. Thursday at the Longtown Cemetery near Como, MS. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Mooneyhan was born March 12, 1926, in Milan, TN, the daughter of the late J.D. Fly and the late Jessie D. McLemore Fly. She was educated in Madison County Schools and in Quittman County, Mississippi schools. Mrs. Mooneyhan was married August 22, 1942, to Harold L. Mooneyhan, retired executive with the Fred's Dollar Stores Corp., who survives.
She was a homemaker and a devoted member of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church where she was involved in the Women's Missionary Union and served on the State Board of the WMU in TN, MS and FL. Mrs. Mooneyhan was instrumental in the establishment of a Church Library and taught in local churches and at State Camps. She will be remembered as a person with a love for life and a devoted Christian. Despite her physical condition, she remained an inspiration to all who knew her for her ever present smile and her Christian spirit.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mooneyhan is survived by her son, B.R. Mooneyhan of Moscow; her brother, Jesse Fly of Hanover, MD; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Mooneyhan, Mike Mooneyhan, Ken Long, Henry Till, Bill Nails and Sonny Henry.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Future Fund of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church, 130 Third Ave., Moscow, TN 38057.
