Mrs. Elliot Lavice Rowland Herndon, age 93, resident of Memphis and wife of the late Charles Edward Herndon, Sr., departed this life Monday afternoon, January 29, 2018 at Elmcroft of Bartlett.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Herndon were conducted at 3 P.M. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Seward Cemetery in Eads. The officiating minister was Rev. Russell Little. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Herndon was born February 2, 1924 in Eads, Tennessee and grew up in the Hickory Withe area. She was a graduate of Treadwell High School in Memphis and was married November 21, 1959 to Charles Edward Herndon, Sr. She was a member of Leawood Baptist Church in Memphis and was a homemaker throughout her life. Mrs. Herndon enjoyed preparing food, crocheting, quilting, canning and collecting ceramics.
Mrs. Herndon is survived by two daughters, Donna Sue Walker (Bud) of Memphis, TN, Glenda Stephenson of Murfreesboro, TN; three sons, Donald Anderson (Rocio) of Costa Rica, Timothy “Tim” Anderson (Laura) of Bradenton, FL, Charles “Chuck” Herndon (Temia) of Lakeland, TN; two sisters, Rebecca Crane of Eads, TN, Edith Tipps of Memphis, TN; twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Herndon, Sr. who died March 24, 2004; her parents, Hobart Rowland and Fanny Sue Seward Rowland; her sister, Oletta Aycock; and her brother, Sonny Rowland.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Seward Cemetery Association, c/o Sue Bishop, 13620 Sain Road, Middleton, TN 38052.
