Elsie McVay (Barrett) Trotter
May 28, 1929 — February 3, 2017
Elsie McVay Barrett Trotter, age 87, resident of Oakland and wife of the late John Howard Trotter, departed this life Friday morning, February 3, 2017 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Trotter were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Jerry and Catherine Bertram speaking. Personal remarks were given by Mrs. Trotter's granddaughter, Kathryn Anderson. Interment followed in the Oakland City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Trotter was born May 28, 1929 in Braden, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Eddward Barrett and Marjorie Lee Barrett. She was a graduate of Fayette County High School and the wife of John Howard Trotter, who preceded her in death in 2006. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area. Mrs. Trotter enjoyed reading, listening to Gospel Music, watching television evangelists and gathering "words of wisdom" to give to her children and grandchildren via post-it notes.
Mrs. Trotter is survived by two sons, John Howard Trotter, Jr. (Catherine Vessels) of Franklin, TN, Anthony Warren Trotter (Emelita Tamarra) of Mountain Home, AR; two sisters, Barbara Lee Lape of Horn Lake, MS, Effie Mai Foti of Horn Lake, MS; six grandchildren, John Matthew Trotter, Kathryn Leigh Anderson, Jacob Barrett Trotter, John Benjamin Trotter, Rebekah Grace Trotter, Terri Megan Trotter; and four great-grandchildren, Emma Katherine Anderson, Caroline Margaret Trotter, Graham Warren Trotter and Charlotte Elise Trotter.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Alan Trotter and her sister, Evelyn Marie Bowling.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Matt Trotter, Jacob Trotter, Benjamin Trotter, Larry Lape, Gordon Tomlin and Wayne Anderson.
