Elton Wayne Ervin

Elton Wayne Ervin, resident of Memphis, retired long distance truck operator and husband of Alice Chandler Ervin, departed this life Saturday morning, August 9, 2014 at his residence. He was 67 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Ervin were conducted at 10 A.M. Wednesday, August 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Artie Nute, minister at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Stanton, Tennessee, officiating. Personal remarks were given by a granddaughter, Hailey Ervin. Interment followed in the Burrow Cemeteray at Gallaway. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Ervin was born September 12, 1946 in Dyer, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Presley Ervin and Nelia Mae Rodgers Ervin. He received his education in the Gibson County Public School System and was married June 24, 1967 to the former Alice Faye Chandler, a supervising seamstress for William R. Eubanks in Memphis, who survives.

Mr. Ervin was employed as a long distance truck operator for over 20 years before his retirement in 1992. He served as a security officer for the Town of Gallaway for a number of years. He was a Baptist in faith and resided in the Memphis area for five years. He enjoyed watching wrestling, old western movies, NASCAR, listening to music, greeting and talking to people and special times with his dog, “Crickett”.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Mr. Ervin is survived by two daughters, Gale Knight (Ersol) of Arlington, Jo Applewhite of Memphis; two sons, Don Ervin (Gina) of Arlington, William Preston Ervin of Arlington; his brother, Glynn Franklin Ervin of Trenton, TN; nine grandchildren, Hailey Ervin, Lauren Ervin, Emily Ervin, Wade Shinall, Lynn Knight, Dallas Knight, William Applewhite, Elizabeth Applewhite, Jamie Applewhite; and his great grandson, Grayson Millen.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were John Bailey, Seth Lacher, Don Ervin, Ersol Knight, Eric Remschied, Steve Chism, Lynn Knight, Kevin Falice, Nick Ruskin and Mike Caine.
