Ervin Lewis Doughty

Ervin Lewis Doughty, age 88, resident of Oakland, United States Veteran and husband of Jane Doughty, departed this life Friday evening, January 29, 2016 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Doughty were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Don Green officiating. A prayer was given by Mr. Don Truitt. Remarks were given by Mr. Dennis Doughty and special music was provided by Josh Cleveland. Interment followed in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery on Raleigh-LaGrange Road. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Doughty was born February 28, 1927 in Bonnie Blue, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben C. Doughty and Ginny Mae Lawson Doughty. He attended school in Bonnie Blue and served his country in the United States Army during the World War II period. He was married March 16, 1946 to the former Jane Lowrey and was a member of the Somerville Church of Christ, where he was very involved with working at the church. Mr. Doughty was employed as a certified welder and a journeyman electrician for much of his life before retiring in 1989 at the age of 62. He was a member of the Union IBEW and enjoyed exercising, lifting weights, bowling, traveling and doing mission work in Singapore and Russia.

Mr. Doughty is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Jane Doughty of Oakland; his daughter, Deborah J. Cleveland of Sun Prairie, WI; his son, Dennis Doughty of Robinsonville, MS; his sister, Betty Kiser of Spartanburg, SC; his brother, Johnny Wayne Doughty of Rockwood, TN; five grandchildren, Jill Doughty, Kandace Doughty Ferguson, Nathan Cleveland, Matthew Cleveland, Joshua Cleveland; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Nathan Cleveland, Matthew Cleveland, Joshua Cleveland, Dave Ferguson, T.J. Plunk and Junior Lowry.
