LENA ESTELLE SEWARD SMITH, longtime resident of the Eads Community and wife of the late Robert Forrest Smith, died at 6:15 P.M. Sunday, August 17, 2008 at her residence on Seward Road. She was 93 years of age and died following an extended illness of several months.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, August 21st at the Graveside with the Rev. Richard Kilpatrick, Chaplain for the Caris HealthCare System in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Seward Cemetery at Eads. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
The daughter of the late James Seward and Hester Allison Seward, early residents of the Eads Community, Mrs. Smith was the last remaining survivor of her ten-sibling family. She was born in the Eads Community on June 29, 1915 and was a lifelong resident of the Eads area.
Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist Faith and was married November 21, 1936 to Robert Forrest Smith, who preceded her in death on November 25, 1988. A homemaker throughout her life and devoted to her family and community, Mrs. Smith enjoyed vegetable gardening and food preparation for her family and friends.
Known for her optimistic attitude and her spiritual faith, Mrs. Smith served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
Survivors of Mrs. Smith include two daughters, Gloria Eugenia Walker and Hester Talley, both of Eads; two sons, Bobbie D. and Robert S. Smith, both of Eads; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The family request that Memorials be directed to the Charity or Organization of the donor's choice or to the Seward Cemetery Association.
