Esther (King) Marsh

Esther King Marsh, resident of the Laconia Community and wife of the late Dr. J. Joe Marsh, Jr., departed this life Wednesday morning, December 18, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett. She was 84 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Marsh were conducted at 3 Friday afternoon at the Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Janie Esther King Marsh was born July 12, 1929 in Swan Lake, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Jasper King and Sallie Robinson King. She received her education in the Webb, Mississippi Public School System. She moved at an early age to Memphis where she graduated from St. Mary's Episcopal School. She attended Converse College in Spartanburg, SC and graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. After college, she taught school in Collierville. Mrs. Marsh was the wife of Dr. J. Joe Marsh, Jr., a retired optometrist, who preceded her in death on November 13, 1993.

Mrs. Marsh is survived by four stepsons, J. Joe Marsh III (Carla) of Spring, TX, Granville S. Marsh of Selmer, TN, David H. Marsh (McGehee) of Memphis, M. Lee Marsh (Nancy) of Issaquah, WA; two nieces, Sallie Robinson Meek or Merigold, MS, Margaret King Plummer of Gulfport, MS; two nephews, Ernest Carlisle Meek III (Terry) of Merigold, MS, John Park Meek (Peg) of Swan Lake, MS; her great-niece, Jane Bryan Meek of Miami, FL; five great-nephews, Joseph Carlisle Meek of Miami, FL, Owen Thomas Dicks (Sandy) of Wasilla, AK, Wesley Robinson Dicks (Megan) of Marble, CO, Paul Harkins (Kelsi) of Little Rock, AR, Matt Harkins of Gulfport, MS; her great-great nephew, Thomas Wyatt Dicks of Wasilla, AK; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
