Etna Mae Smith Chambers, age 78, resident of the Moscow Community and wife of Milton L. Chambers, departed this life Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville.
Services for Mrs. Chambers were conducted at 4 P.M. Monday, June 23rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with interment in the Ebenezer Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Chambers was born August 17, 1935 in Moscow. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Herbert Smith and Grace Ashford Smith. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School class of 1954. She was married July 1, 1954 to Milton Leroy Chambers, who survives.
Mrs. Chambers was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a member of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow. She was employed as a head cashier for the Moscow Savings Bank for 25 years and the Moscow City Hall for 12 years before her retirement. She enjoyed genealogy and outdoor activities that included walking in the woods and taking care of her dogs and cats. She will be remembered as a person who would always help others.
In addition to her husband of almost 60 years, Mrs. Chambers is survived by her daughter, Cathy Chambers Owens of Moscow; her sister, Linda Smith Biggs (Ray) of Greer, SC; her brother, William David Smith (Bonnie) of Somerville; four grandchildren, Miranda Watkins, Meagan Lewis (Richie), Monica Chambers and Michelle Chambers, all of Grand Junction, TN; and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Milton Chambers who died June 23, 2005; and her infant brother, Ronald Herbert Smith.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Dylan Smith, Jacob Smith, Joe Yager, Roy Owens, Robert Owens, Bruce Owens, John Chambers and James Boyd Chambers, Jr.
Honorary casketbearers will be Delyn Chambers, Dennis Chambers, Mike Biggs, Rachel Biggs Davis, Suzette Chambers Moore and Bonnie Crisp Ward.
