ETTIE LEE GENTRY PHILLIPS, a resident of Olive Branch, Mississippi with extended family members in Fayette County died at 7:35 A.M. Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at her residence. She was 68 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Phillips were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, September 21st at Memorial Park Chapel in Memphis with Pastor Denny Burt and John Hickman officiating. Interment followed in the Memphis Memorial Park on Poplar Avenue. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Alcorn County, Mississippi on March 16, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton A. Gentry and Mary Hazel Parvin Gentry. She was educated in the Mississippi Public School system and was a resident of Memphis before moving to Desoto County.
Mrs. Phillips was of the Baptist Faith and had been involved in restaurant management and ownership throughout her life. She was co-owner of Marley's Restaurant and Lounge and King's Inn Lounge in Memphis before her retirement.
She is survived by three sons, David L. McCormick of Hernando, MS, William A. "Al" McCormick of Coldwater, MS and Kevin J. Phillips of Southaven, MS; a sister, Mary Glenn Blakney & brother-in-law, Bill Blakney of Moon Lake, MS; a sister, Martha Sue Richardson of Lakeland, TN and 8 grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Joel Gallagher, John Hickman, Brandon McCormick, Bryan McCormick, John McCormick and Mitchell McCormick.
