Eva Dell Dacus Hughes, resident of Oakland Community, retired employee of the Wal-Mart Corporation and wife of Roy Melvin “Bubba” Hughes died Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011 at her residence. She was 63 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. John Ed Watkins of Morris Chapel Baptist Church and Rev. Robert Gross of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Hughes was born March 21, 1947 in Memphis, TN to Mary Lee Edwards Dacus and William Eugene Dacus, Sr. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and married was January 31, 1963 to Roy Melvin “Bubba” Hughes, retired area drywall contractor, who survives. Mrs. Hughes was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of the Oakland Lakes Area Community for the past 30 years. She was a devoted homemaker throughout her life and was also employed as a Department Manager for the Wal-Mart Company in Bartlett for 13 years before her retirement last year. She will be remembered as a family oriented person who enjoyed special times with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Hughes was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter: Shelia Hughes Collins (Bo) of Oakland, TN; her son: Michael Hughes (Karen) of Collierville, TN; her sisters: Mary Nell McCammon of Southaven, MS, Betty Carol Coad (Gary) of Jackson, TN; her brother: Larry Joe Dacus (Gwen) of Memphis, TN; her grandchildren: Brittany Boyles, Blake Boyles, Hunter Hughes, Taylor Hughes and one great-grandson: Jake Brant. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her sister: Martha Ann Davis, her two brothers, William “Bill” Eugene Dacus, Jr. and Don Dacus.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Barry Boyles, Rick Collum, Dennis Enlow, Jason Flippo, Glynn Hughes and Tim McKnatt. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Hughes, Hunter Hughes and Samuel Thrasher.
