EVELYN GRIFFIN ANDERSON

August 18, 1912 — October 30, 2009

EVELYN GRIFFIN ANDERSON, well-known resident of the "Griffin Store Community" near Oakland, longtime merchant before her retirement and wife of the late Forrest Anderson passed away Friday morning, October 30, 2009 at her residence. She was 97 years of age and died following an extended illness of four months.

Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Anderson were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, November 1st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Burke Howcroft, Pastor of the Lambert Community Church in Fayette County, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. Anderson was born in the Warren Community of Fayette County on August 18, 1912. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall Walton Griffin and Myrtle Elizabeth Cole Griffin, early residents of the Oakland area.

She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married on August 13, 1930 to Henry Forrest Anderson, retired Merchant and Farmer who died January 12, 1993.

Mrs. Anderson was the oldest resident of her community at the time of her death and was a founding member of the Lambert Community Church.

She had been a resident of the "Griffin Store Community" since 1941 and had been associated with her family in the operation of Anderson's Grocery Store, a Fayette County landmark, since that time.

Mrs. Griffin was an accomplished Seamstress and avid gardener who enjoyed sharing her knowledge and expertise with others.

Survivors of Mrs. Anderson include her daughter, Joyce Bradsher of the "Griffin Store Community"; her sister, Virginia Montague (wife of the late J.T. Montague) of the Warren Community; two nieces and four nephews.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Buddy Aston, Doug Williams, Perry L. Montague, Morgan Paradise, Billy Reeves and Cory Jones.
