Evon Callahan Glover, resident of the Whiteville Community, lifelong resident of the Somerville and Whiteville areas and retired nurse, departed this life Friday afternoon, March 21, 2014 at her son’s residence in Somerville. She was 75 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Glover were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 25th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Kevin Treadway of Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Glover was born September 23, 1938 in Delmar, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston Callahan and Leora Holland Callahan. She received her education in the Winston County, Alabama Public School System and continued her education to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She served as a nurse for area hospitals and nursing homes that included Arlington Developmental Center and Gallaway HealthCare Center.
Mrs. Glover was of the Baptist faith and in her career as a nurse, served as a caregiver for many people before her retirement. She enjoyed her family and was involved in many of her grandchildren’s activities.
Mrs. Glover is survived by two sons, William “Bill” Oliver of Somerville, Kenneth Sage (Melissa) of Stanton; her sister, Evelyn Markle of Horn Lake, MS; four brothers, Hubert Callahan of Rogers, AR, Roy Callahan of Jackson, TN, Ray Callahan of Walnut, MS, Willie Callahan of Memphis; a number of grandchildren and one great grandson.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were J.D. Tucker, Levi Glover, Lee Smallwood, Mike Carnell, Kevin Treadway and Bobby James Bishop.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
