Exie "Bernice" Benson Waddell, age 84, resident of Mason and wife of the late Cullen Lee Waddell, Sr., departed this life Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Waddell were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Mark Matheny and Rev. Dr. Ed Gillock, Sr. officiating. They were assisted by Bro. Carl Doyle. Interment followed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery at Mason. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Waddell was born April 2, 1931 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. She received her education in the Lawrence County, Arkansas Public School System and was a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School. She was married July 9, 1949 to Cullen Lee Waddell, Sr. and she was a former Vice President of the William B. Tanner Company and Media Services, Inc. She was the former owner of Waddell Feed and Seed and Waddell Grainery, both in Mason. Mrs. Waddell was a member of the Braden United Methodist Church and she enjoyed writing poetry, making flower arrangements, listening to music, playing the piano and bowling in earlier years.
Mrs. Waddell is survived by two daughters, Deborah W. Austill (Bob) of Covington, TN, Janet W. Wilburn of Somerville; three sons, Cullen Lee Waddell, Jr. (Kathy) of Somerville, Joe B. Waddell (Denise) of Mason, Michael E. Waddell (Gwen) of Oakland; her brother, Frank Benson, Sr.; nine grandchildren, Kim Hart, John Golightly, Jason Golightly, Sharon Nowak, Michael Waddell, Scott Waddell, Kara Tapp, Justin West, Ben Waddell; and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cullen Lee Waddell, Sr. who died May 29, 2011; her parents, Cicero William Montgomery Benson and Jessie Henson Benson; her sister, Emily Dawson; her brother, John Benson; and her grandson, Cullen Lee "Trey" Waddell, III.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Michael Waddell, Scott Waddell, Ben Waddell, Justin West, Josh Tapp and John Golightly.
Honorary pallbearers were Shelton Wilder and Lindsey Cox.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Braden United Methodist Church, 230 Highway 59, Mason, TN 38049.
