Fanny Laura Seward Brockwell, resident of the Somerville Community, former resident of the Eads Community and wife of the late Louis M. Brockwell died Saturday morning, January 21, 2012 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville where she was taken after becoming ill at the Somerville Community residence of her granddaughter, Vicki Harrison. She was 101 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services Honoring the Life of Mrs. Brockwell were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 24th at Morning Sun Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cordova with Rev. William Jones of Lexington, TN officiating. Special music was provided by Maria DeBacco and John Lewis. Interment followed in the Arlington Cemetery at Arlington with Rev. Ron McMillan of the Holly Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Brockwell was born February 12, 1910 in the Eads Community, the daughter of the late Estes Seward and the late Docia Ray Seward, early residents of the Eads Community area. She was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and was the wife of Louis M. Brockwell, who preceded her in death in 1996. Mr. Brockwell was from the Arlington Community and was a partner in E.H. Clarke Printing Company in Memphis in earlier years.
Mrs. Brockwell was a homemaker throughout her life and was a devoted Presbyterian for many years. She served in earlier years as a church secretary for Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis and was an active member of the East Side Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Organization. At the time of her death, Mrs. Brockwell was one of the oldest members of her community and church and was a loyal supporter of the Memphis Theological Seminary for many years.
Mrs. Brockwell is survived by her son, Robert Wallace Brockwell of Marion, AR; five grandchildren, Vicki Harrison of Somerville, Suzanne Mikel of Mt. Juliet, TN, Jamie Brockwell of Marion, AR, Cara Ellis of Nashville, Sara Brockwell of Hot Springs, AR; and four great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were John Shepard, Steven Shepard, Jason Mikel, Ty Harrison, Mack Harrison and Alex McCollum.
