FAY FRANKLIN CHRISTENSEN, resident of Somerville, retired U.S. Navy Veteran and husband to the late Fay Phillips Christensen, died at 5 P.M. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Crockett County Nursing Home. He was 90 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Christensen were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, May 12th at the graveside with Rev. Joe Williams, retired pastor of the Wolfchase Community Church. Interment, with full Military Honors, was in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy 64 at Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Christensen was born April 15, 1918, in Afton, Wyoming, the son of the late Nephi Christensen and Mae Hansen Christensen. He was educated in the Wyoming public school system and continued his education at the William R. Moore School of Technology in Memphis. Mr. Christensen was the husband of Fay Lenora Phillips who preceded him in death July 16, 2004.
Mr. Christensen was a retired United States Naval career person and had been a resident of the Somerville community for over fifty years. He had been employed as a bus driver for the Fayette County Board of Education and had also been employed by the Hart's Bakery in Memphis. A multi talented person active for many years in children's ministry throughout the area, Mr. Christensen operated the Children's Noah's Ark during the annual Mid South Fair in Memphis for many years. Mr. Christensen was an accomplished artist, woodworker, painter and musician.
Mr. Christenses is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers were military personnel and the family request that memorials be directed to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
