Florence Ellen (Parkes) Moore

Florence Ellen Parkes Moore, resident of Oakland and longtime resident of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, departed this life Monday afternoon, June 9, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where she had been a patient for one week. She was 85 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services and Interment for Ms. Moore will be at a later date in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Ms. Moore was born May 14, 1929 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Parkes, Jr. and Cleo Harper Parkes. She received her education in the Lawrence County, Tennessee Public School System and continued her education at the Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

Ms. Moore was a resident of the Lawrenceburg area and was employed as a medical administrator for a number of years before her retirement. She moved to the Oakland Community recently to be close to her family. She was a Christian in faith and enjoyed knitting, preparing food for her family and friends and catering for events.

Ms. Moore is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Jaye Moore of Atlanta, GA, Jan Neely McMasters (Rex) of Lawrenceburg, TN; two sons, Jeffery Avera Moore (Deborah) of Oakland, James Harper Moore (Patsy) of Lafayette, IN; her brother, Joseph Parkes of Nashville; three granddaughters and two great granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Parkes, III and her grandson, Will McMasters.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
