Florence “Patsy” Lucas Moss, the mother of Patti Stanford, a former resident of the Somerville Community, departed this life Wednesday evening, May 21, 2014 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis where she resided for three days. She was 85 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Moss will be conducted in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and interment will be in the Ft. Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Moss was born July 8, 1928 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lucas and Ruby Shannon Lucas. She received her education in the St. Louis, Missouri Public School System and was married December 31, 1949 to Walter T. Moss, who preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Moss was associated with her family in the operation of the Moss Embroidery Shop for over 34 years, where she specialized in monograms and serving as a seamstress for the company before her retirement in 1990.
Mrs. Moss was a former resident of Tamarac, Florida and was a Methodist in faith. Preparing food for her family and caring for her yard were pleasures that she enjoyed. While a resident in Florida, she was a collector of seashells, crystals and rocks.
Mrs. Moss is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Bryan of Memphis, Patti Stanford (Jimmy), former residents of the Somerville Community who now reside in Holly Springs, MS; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Adams and Doris Farmer.
