FRANCES IMOGENE HALEY ARMSTRONG, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community and wife of Bobby Ray Armstrong died at 6:30 P.M. Sunday, February 22, 2009 at her Fayette County residence on Ivy Road. She was 75 years of age and died following an eight month illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Armstrong were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 25th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Rev. Eddie Little, Pastor of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment and Graveside Services followed at 2 P.M. on Wednesday in the Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery at Marion, Arkansas. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Armstrong was born January 20, 1934 in Hughes Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Jackson Haley and Linnie Lee Claighorn Haley. She was educated in the Hughes Arkansas Public School System and was married May 8, 1951 to Bobby Ray Armstrong who survives. Mr. Armstrong was employed for many years in West Tennessee as a Bakery Route Salesman for the Harts and Colonial Bakeries in Memphis before his retirement.
Mrs. Armstrong was a homemaker throughout her life and also employed by the Interstate Brands (Dolly Madison) Bakery in Memphis for a number of years before her retirement. She and Mr. Armstrong had been residents of the Hickory Withe Community for the past thirty-six years, and she was a devoted member of the Hickory Withe Baptist Church, participating in numerous church activities.
She had a deep devotion for her family and her greatest pleasures included fishing and preparing food for family and friends. She looked forward to gatherings at the family cabin at Cold Creek as long as health permitted.
She was a resident of Memphis before moving to Fayette County.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Armstrong is survived by three sons: Ray Armstrong of Memphis; David Armstrong and Lyn Armstrong, both of Hickory Withe; one brother, Wayne Haley of Lakeland, TN; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Rowland Haley.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Tommy Touggett, Cody Armstrong, Eric Armstrong, Bobby Armstrong, Ray Armstrong and Eugene Sexton.
The family request that Memorials be directed to the Building Fund of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church.
