Frances Dickson Gaddy, resident of the Gallaway Community, longtime resident of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, departed this life Thursday, February 4, 2014 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville. She was 85 years of age.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Gaddy were conducted on Tuesday, February 11th in Crystal Springs, Mississippi with her great-nephew, Wayne Bagley, officiating. Interment followed in the Old Crystal Springs Cemetery. Local arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Gaddy was born on March 5, 1928, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. Dickson and Gladys Dickson. She grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, and lived for many years in Crystal Springs before living in Tupelo, Petal, and Oxford, all in Mississippi, and then Collierville. Most recently, she was a resident at Gallaway Healthcare Center in Gallaway.
Mrs. Gaddy was a graduate of the Touro Infirmary School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a former member of New Zion Baptist Church in Crystal Springs. She was formerly a registered nurse at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital and the Pine Crest Guest Home, both in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, cooking, and special times with her family.
Mrs. Gaddy is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Bahm (Harry) of Collierville; two granddaughters, Virginia McCullough and Caitlyn Bahm, both of Collierville; and a large extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Ray “Chick” Gaddy, and her second husband, Walter Douglas Garland III; her sisters, Virginia Bowlin, Doris Graves, and Melba Walters; her brother, Thomas Dickson; and her stepfather, Paul Lehman.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
