Frances Lurlene (Dillard) Jones

Frances Lurlene Dillard Jones, age 92, resident of Toone, Tennessee and wife of the late Horace Jones, departed this life Monday morning, March 26, 2018 at her residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Jones was conducted at 12 Noon Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Chris Coil officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Germantown Parkway in Bartlett. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Frances Dillard was born June 1, 1925 in rural Hardeman County, Tennessee and attended school in Toone. She moved to Bemis, outside of Jackson, Tennessee and worked in the mill and attended West Tennessee Business College, earning a Certificate of Business. She met Horace Jones in Jackson and they eloped and married on July 10, 1947. They moved to Memphis, Tennessee and settled in Bartlett, Tennessee, where they lived until Mr. Jones retired from International Harvester and they moved to Somerville, Tennessee. Mrs. Jones opened The Doll Reader Shoppe, combining her love of books, dolls and antiques. She was active in Friends of the Library and her church, Somerville Church of Christ, where she was a longtime member. Reading and gardening were favorite pastimes.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Celia Jones Chastain; her son, Steven Tony Jones; four grandchildren, Peter Brazelton (Carrie) who cared for her until the end, Zachary Brazelton, Cheyanne Jones, Cody Jones; and seven great-grandchildren, Sage Brazelton, Drew Brazelton, Megan Brazelton, Nathan Brazelton, Reba Hensley, Rylee Davis and Colby Hensley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Jones, Sr.; her parents, Joseph Dillard and Tobitha Watson Dillard; and her son, Horace Jones, Jr.
