FRANCES VIRGINIA JACOBS KIEFER, resident of the Somerville Community, wife of the late Edward Kiefer, and a person active in the religious and community affairs of Fayette County, died at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital of Germantown. She was 87 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kiefer were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, August 2nd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Frank Crawford, Pastor of the Somerville First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment occurred Tuesday, August 5th in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery at Dallas, Texas. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of Fayette County, Mrs. Kiefer was born November 4, 1920, the daughter of the late Maurice J. Jacobs and the late Sallie Emma Burch Jacobs. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, Class of 1938. Mrs. Kiefer was married in 1940 to Edward E. Kiefer who died in 1981. Mr. and Mrs. Kiefer were residents of Dallas, Texas for many years and after his death, Mrs. Kiefer returned to Somerville to live with her sister and brother. She was employed as a PBX Operator for the General Electric Corp. in Dallas for a number of years before her retirement and was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church in Dallas for fifty-three years.
After returning to Somerville, Mrs. Kiefer became involved in community activities and was a devoted member of the Somerville First Baptist Church at the time of her death. She was an active participant in the Somerville Community Bible Study and was a former member of the Craddock Book Club, the Somerville Homemaker's Club and the Royal Heirs Choir of her church.
Mrs. Kiefer will be remembered for her neat appearance and as an outgoing person who enjoyed her family, her church and community.
Survivors of Mrs. Kiefer include a sister, Bernice Minner of Somerville; a brother, James F. "Jimmy" Jacobs of Bolivar; a niece, Monica Remington of Tomball, TX; her nephews: Ralph Taylor of Somerville; Don M. Taylor of Garland, TX; Robert, Hal A., Dennis, Randy and John Hertz; Maurice Sparkman of Olive Branch, MS; John Boswell of Medina, TN; Barry Jacobs of Ridgley, TN and Mark Jacobs of Dallas, TX.
Mrs. Kiefer is also survived by a special friend; Loy Beard.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Sparkman; three brothers: John M., George and Robert Jacobs and a niece, Joyce Ann Jacobs.
