Frank Andrew Moss, Jr., resident of the Kirk Community in Fayette County, retired from the Shelby County Government and husband of Dora Anthony Moss, departed this life Sunday afternoon, March 23, 2014 at his residence. He was 83 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Moss were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, March 26th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Frank Feathers of Holly Springs, Mississippi, officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Thomas Foy, pastor of the Kirk Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Moss was born May 4, 1930 in Bartlett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Andrew Moss, Sr. and Fannie Whitehead Moss. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and was the husband of the former Dora Ann Anthony, retired employee of the Strike Ring Fishing Lures in Collierville and the Ripley Screen Company in Collierville, who survives.
Mr. Moss was of the Baptist faith and was employed for over 40 years by the Shelby County Government, which included serving as a heavy equipment operator for the Shelby County Road Department and employed by the Shelby County Penal Farm. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette and Shelby County, Tennessee and Marshall County, Mississippi. He had been a resident of the Kirk Community for the past 38 years and will be remembered for his love of outdoor activities that included rabbit and squirrel hunting, family cookouts and taking much pride in the care of his yard, continuing to mow his lawn until his recent illness. Family-oriented activities, attending wrestling matches, NASCAR racing and repairing his vehicles were enjoyed throughout his life.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Moss is survived by four daughters, Brenda Haddakin (Joe) of Gallaway, Judy Coghlan of Bartlett, Debra Kunst (Lester) of Middleton, Jackie Wilson (Chuck) of Collierville; his son, Jerry Moss (Kim) of Millington; two sisters, Bertha Mae Sollie of Southaven, MS, Stella Virginia Doyle of Walnut, MS; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Mullins; his son, Donald Moss; and his brother, Grady Moss.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Gordon Wardlow, Ryan Coghlan, Kevin Kunst, Clarence Anthony, Joey Moss and Jack Dodd.
