Frank Arthur Shepard, longtime resident of the Arlington Community and a person active in the civic, community and religious activities of Arlington for many years departed this life Tuesday evening, November 19, 2013 at his residence. He was 89 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors for Mr. Shepard was conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, November 23rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Don Kerns of the Advent Presbyterian Church in Arlington and Pastor Phil Newberry of the Bellevue Baptist Church in Arlington officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites followed in the Arlington Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Shepard was born September 27, 1924 in Perry, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents and one of eight children of the late Chauncey Shepard and Marion Mason Shepard. His formative years were during the Depression where he learned work ethics at an early age. He was one of eight children. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in China and the Philippines as an aircraft mechanic.
He met Anna Lois Dacus at the Millington Naval Base and they married on November 10, 1944. Mrs. Shepard died in 1988 after 44 years of marriage. In 1989, he married the former Betty Guizlo, who preceded him in death after over 20 years of marriage.
Mr. Shepard was recognized around Arlington for many years as the "Model A Man". He purchased the car while employed at Bond Motor Company in 1957 and drove it constantly until recently giving it to his grandson, Jeff Shepard of Jackson, TN. He was employed at Bond Motor Company for over 30 years, beginning as a mechanic and rising to sales manager before becoming a partner in Sid Bailey Motors.
He will be remembered by many as a retired business owner, Fire Chief, City Alderman, Sunday School Superintendent, Presbyterian Church Elder, coordinator of the Arlington Youth Baseball program, the Arlington Masonic Lodge and a former president of the Optimist Club.
Mr. Shepard is survived by two sons, Michael Gene Shepard of Jackson, TN, Frank Albert Shepard of Belmont, NC; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Mike Shepard, Frank Shepard, Jeff Shepard, Gregg Shepard, Scott Shepard, Cade Crabtree and Zack Shepard.
