Frank David Slaughter

December 11, 1934 — January 4, 2017

Frank David Slaughter, age 82, resident of Marion, Arkansas and husband of the late Cherry Raymond Slaughter, departed this life Wednesday evening, January 4, 2017 at the Willowbend at Marion, Arkansas.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Slaughter were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 the First Baptist Church in Memphis with Dr. David Breckenridge, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Bartlett. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Slaughter was born December 11, 1934 in Stillwater, Minnesota. He received his education at Stillwater, Minnesota and at the University of Miami. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was married February 3, 1967 to the former Cherry Raymond. Mr. Slaughter was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis and he was employed as an insurance salesman for Prudential Insurance before his retirement.

Mr. Slaughter was a member of the Boy Scouts, having received his Eagle Scout award, was a member of the Northeast Optimist Club from 1982 until 1991 and served as President in 1986 and 1987. He was a member of the Raleigh-Bartlett Civitan Club from 1989 until 2000, served as President in 1991, 1992, 1996 and 1997, and served in many other positions. He was a chartered life underwriter and enjoyed golfing, photography and coin collecting.

Mr. Slaughter is survived by his stepson, John Sholly (Renee) of Cordova, TN; his sister, Ruth Kemp of Denver, CO; his brother, John Slaughter of Forest Lake, MN; and four grandchildren, John Sholly (Amber) of Victoria, MS, Christopher Sholly of Memphis, TN, Richard Sholly of Byhalia, MS and Joshua Sholly (Sarah) of Rome, Italy.

He was preceded in death by his wife Cherry Raymond Slaughter who died August 4, 2015; his parents, Frank B. Slaughter and Helen Sleeger; and his sister, Mary Rask.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church Choir, 200 E. Parkway North, Memphis, TN 38112.
