William Franklin House, resident of the Somerville Community, U.S. Navy Veteran and retired Coliseum Superintendent died Monday morning, January 16, 2012 at his residence on Old Brownsville Road. He was 90 years of age and died following an illness of several years.

Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. House were conducted at 12 noon Friday, January 20th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Gary Ealy of the Cordova Community Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. House was born April 13, 1921 in Weakley County, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Forrest House and Maggie L. Ross House. He was educated in the Weakley County and South Fulton, TN Public School System and was a United States Naval Veteran, serving in the Pacific during the World War II war period. He was married January 16, 1944 to the former Mary Louise Nanney, retired office employee of Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Mrs. House preceded her husband in death on March 15, 2011.

Mr. House was a former resident of the Dukedom Community area in Weakley County where he served as a Funeral Director for the J.T. Jackson and Sons Funeral Home in Dukedom. Mr. House was a graduate of the Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville and was a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in Tennessee.

He and his family moved to the Memphis area in later years where Mr. House served as Superintendent of the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis for 25 years before his retirement 20 years ago. He had been a resident of the Somerville Community for the past 9 years and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. House will be remembered as a person who enjoyed fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather with a strong sense of pride and patriotism for his country.

Mr. House is survived by two sons, Don Franklin House (Kay) of the Hickory Withe Community, David Brian House (Virginia) of Somerville; his sister, Martha Rose of South Fulton, TN; five grandchildren, Jon House, Ginger House, Kevin House, Zachary House, Nicholas House; and eight great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers included Mr. House’s grandsons, Jon House, Kevin House and Zachary House.
