Fred L. Jones, age 82, resident of the Oakland Community, retired transportation logistics manager, United States Korean War Veteran and husband of Joyce Cobb Jones, departed this life Thursday morning, January 22, 2015 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Jones were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 25th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Eddie Little, pastor of the First Baptist Church Hickory Withe, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Jones was born December 8, 1932 in the Kerrville Community in Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Pearson Jones and Ellen Dallas Rast Jones. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War Period. He was married June 18, 1954 to the former Joyce Cobb, who survives.
Mr. Jones was a resident of the Oakland Community for many years and had a special love for his church, First Baptist Church Hickory Withe. He was a devoted Christian who read his Bible on a daily basis. He was employed as a transportation logistics manager before his retirement and was also a cattle farmer. Mr. Jones enjoyed golfing in earlier years and was a family-oriented person who enjoyed special times with his family members and friends.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Jones is survived by his daughter, Wanda J. Parker (Charles) of Memphis; his son, Warrick Lane Jones (Michelle) of Georgetown, KY; his sister, Kay Wolfe (Jim Smallwood) of Memphis; his brother, Clay Pearson Jones of Hickory Withe; five grandchildren, Christopher Tate Parker, Brittany Ann Parker, Kendal Rae Parker, Samuel Lane Jones, Benjamin Warrick Jones; and three great grandchildren, Luke Dowling Parker, Lola Elizabeth Parker and Easton Oliver Pingel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hathaway and his brother, Coy Travis Jones.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jason Word, Dallas Word, Mark Rowlan, Eric Wolfe, Mike Riggans and Coy Jones.
