Fred S. Pitts, Jr., age 76, died suddenly at his home in Oakland, Tennessee on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Mr. Pitts retired after a 30-year career as a sales manager in the wholesale lumber industry. He graduated college at Austin Peay State University with a B.S. degree in 1969. Fred was a member of the APSU golf team all four years he attended the university. Upon his graduation, Mr. Pitts began his career working for his stepfather, Charles Thompson "Charlie" Bennett at Bennett Lumber Sales in Jackson, Tennessee.
Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by his parents, F. Sherman Pitts, Sr. and Dixie Sager Pitts Bennett.
Fred and his wife, Linda Cook Pitts, were happily married for more than 55 years. They share two children, Scott Pitts (wife, Shelley Pummel Pitts) and Jennifer Jill Pitts Ott, O.D. (husband, David Ott) as well as grandchildren, Peyton Pitts (20), Olivia Elizabeth Ott (8) and Coleman Ott (5) all of Collierville, Tennessee. Fred also leaves a stepbrother, Tommy Bennett of Florida and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Carol Cook Daniel of Indian Trail, North Carolina and Mrs. Patricia Cook Schwerd and her husband, David Schwerd of Galax, Virginia.
At the time of his death, Mr. Pitts was a member of First Baptist Church in Oakland, Tennessee. Formerly, Fred was a longtime member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee where there will be a memorial service for him at 1 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2024. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
