Fred Louis Steward

November 14, 1915 — January 27, 2015

Fred Louis Steward, age 99, resident of the Belmont Community and husband of the late Virginia "Jo" Steward, departed this life Tuesday evening, January 27, 2015 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Steward were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, January 31st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment followed in the Hebron Cemetery in the Bethlehem Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Steward was born November 14, 1915 in Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Louis Steward and Jessie May Pattat Steward. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1936. He was the husband of Virginia "Jo" Stringfield, who preceded him in death on August 7, 2006.

Mr. Steward was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a farmer for much of his life. He was a member of the Braden United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing, talking to people and special times with his grandchildren.

Mr. Steward is survived by two daughters, Alice Steward Jaynes (Mike Anderson) of Mason, Margaret Ann Steward Compher of Santee, CA; his son, Donald Steward (Wanda L. Steward) of Nashville; his son-in-law, John Whitaker of Mason; his sister, Daisy Williams of Slidell, LA; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Steward Whitaker; two sisters, Arlie Inks, Zelma Bowling; two brothers, Arthur Steward, Merrel Steward; and two grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Wyatt Williams, Wayne Williams, Fred Williams, Millard Bowling, Jr., Jeffrey Williams and Courtney Smith.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
